Am I a Candidate for Implant Dentistry?

Our patients’ safety and comfort is one of our top priorities at Welch Dentistry. We maintain a clean, welcoming, and friendly environment designed to put anxious patients at ease and make each individual feel like part of our dental practice family. It’s also vitally important to us to communicate clearly with our patients.

When someone is undergoing a new treatment or procedure that could be potentially frightening or scary for them, we approach the situation with clear communication in mind. We will keep you informed about exactly what the procedure will entail: what we’ll do, what will happen, and how long recovery will take.

Implant dentistry is one of those procedures that can require more explanation than most when it comes to detailing how the treatment will be performed. This is because implant dentistry can only be performed if patients meet certain criteria.

What Does Implant Dentistry Require?

For surgical procedures, patients have to meet certain criteria before they are cleared to undergo the procedure. This includes dental procedures, such as implant placement.

In order for you to qualify for implant dentistry you need to meet the following requirements:

  • Healthy Gums: Healthy gums indicate the absence of gum disease, which would prevent successful implant placement and endanger your new teeth.
  • Adequate Bone Density: Dental implants require a good amount of bone density to be secured in place. Bone density decreases when a tooth is lost. If too much of it is gone by the time you have a consultation for dental implant placement, it might be impossible to place one.
  • Good Oral Hygiene Habits: If you’re consistent with cleaning and taking care of your teeth, you’re one step closer to qualifying for dental implants.
  • Regular Dental Visits: Coming in for regular dental appointments demonstrates an ability and desire to take care of your teeth, two things you’ll need after getting implant surgery.

We would be happy to meet with you for an examination to help you determine whether dental implants are a viable option for you.
